Few weeks away from Quarter 1's end...
What was successful...
2nd Grade
SubhanAllah, the new set up for Jeopardy was a straight genius idea from the guidance and tawfiq of Allah SWT. SO AWESOME mashaAllah. Last year, I had to give the, "Have a good attitude whether you win or lose..." talk several times throughout the game. I wuold come out of the classroom after the game exhausted and mentally drained, and sometimes depressed over my kids insistence that they always had to win. This year alhamdulillah, Allah blessed me with the insight to use their CENTER groups as teams! So there were Seven Teams, instead of the usual two large teams.
The teams collaborated on each question together more effectivly, since it was just two members. No one got an insane amount of points, no one was extremely sad about getting something wrong.
1st Grade:
Hands on Activity: They can't really read yet, so we went through our Vocabulary Activity together. Some of them found the answers in their books by themselves. They worked on their activity quietly for the most part, especially when they were cutting.
4th Grade
...talking to M about his behavior. Felt like I got through to him.
Repriminding the students about their manners.
3rd Grade
CENTERS!
Alhamdulillah they loved them. Just have to stay consistant with new centers, AND checking their current centers promptly.
Organizationally:
Failed.
Why it was successful...
Allah SWT's being Al Lateef and Al Kareem and Al Khabeer first and foremost.
2nd Grade
Teams of two helped collaboration.
Making them write the checks on the whiteboard helped them participate.
Making the questions come straight from their study guide, so that no one really got anything wrong. (used harder questions last year.)
Giving points for collaboration and quietness, and taking away points for being out of the chair etc. Thank you Allah!
1st Grade
They like hands on.
I read the questions to them before.
They were shown where and how to find the answers in their book.
Making them focus, listen to directions first, and act on them after i say GO.
Giving points to clusters
Counting down with my eyes closed to see how fast they can clean up.
4th Grade
Didn't lose my cool. Alhamdulillah.
3rd Grade:
Centers were new
Pep talk on how to deal with your partners.
Smiling
Stamps
M and Ms at the end for doing the Centers well.
What did I fail at?
2nd Grade
Creating a strategy for calculating points, and rewards for the winning team, if any.
Need to find a way to make the link for jeopardy fade once used!
Forgot to tell them to take their books home.
1st Grade
Solidifying Directions. Making sure they were clear on what was expected from them.
Listing Objectives at the beginning.
4th Grade
Didn't come in bracing myself for my usual tough to deal with class. They're bored of doing worksheets and lectures. They neeeeed a story of some sort. I need to list objectives for them, make it clear what is exptected of them, and how to achieve it. Only with organization can I relax and have fun, and not be worried and anxious while I'm teaching! They had such horrible manners today! Made them write a paper on how they can have better manners in Islamic Studies class. One of them, (so sweet), wrote, I hope this essay makes you feel better.
T: Ran inside the classroom disrespectfully three times, even after I made him go back and walk again!
M: Laughing at T.
O: Said he was really bored and wanted to get his DS from the car. Asked this question seriously. I reacted to strongly. they're just BOYS. brush it off!
Z: Horrible attitude. rolling eyes, answering rhetorical questions to be funny, (never thought I'd ask those) being incredibly disrespectful.
R: Usual sweet self.
Me: So sad. Stopped mid lesson. Made them do book work.
3rd Grade:
Grading Workbooks. Need to be consistent in grading!!!
Why did I fail?
2nd Grade
Didn't put that reminder in the lesson plans.
Didn't think through the calculating points bit.
1st Grade
Didn't think it through :(
4th Grade:
Didn't start a strong routine from the beginning. they need more stories, more content than what the book provides.
3rd Grade:
See previous.
Kayyy hope i keep this consistent iA. Gotta run home!
